The LIFE TECMINE Project, protagonist of the International Congress Mine Closure 2019

The LIFE TECMINE project is being a highlighted protagonist at the 13th International Conference on Mine Closure 2019, which is being held in Perth between 1 and 7 September 2019, organised by the Australian Centre for Geomechanics, CSIRO-University of Western Australia.

Before the congress, different practical workshops have been programmed. The workshop on Landform Design and Modelling for Mine Rehabilitation and Closure was co-organised and led by José Fco Martín Duque from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), partner of the LIFE TECMINE project.

The 105 participants of the workshop had to carry out a practical exercise on how they would restore, with a geomorphological approach, the Fortuna mine from the information provided by the UCM.

The approach and resolution was of great interest to all participants, who congratulated the organizers for the learning involved in this case. This activity contributes to the dissemination of the project and the training of professionals from different countries, the exchange of knowledge and replicability in other regions of the world.

On the conference day of 3 September 2019, a specific communication was made focusing on the case of the restoration of the Fortuna mine within the framework of the LIFE TECMINE project, Geomorphic rehabilitation in Europe: recognition as best available technology and its role in LIFE projects.

More than 500 people have attended this important congress with international projection and in which LIFE TECMINE has highlighted both in the conferences and in the practical workshops. The scientific article presented by the UCM on the LIFE TECMINE project and the rest of the conferences are already published on the Australian Centre for Geomechanics website.

The presence of the TECMINE project at this congress contributes to the dissemination of the best geomorphological restoration techniques, on the basis on TECMINE project worldwide and in a technical and specialised forum with great interest both in the techniques and in the LIFE TECMINE project.

In addition, this event is an important milestone in the development of the project, due to the international projection it represents and the dissemination of the techniques that are being used in Europe in a country like Australia, with significant world level mining activity.

The presence of the TECMINE project will continue in Australia at conferences given by José Fco. Martín Duque at Curtin University (Perth, Western Australia) and at the University of Newcastle (Newcastle, New South Wales).
