The ‘Innovations in Land Restoration’ campaign begins and includes a video on the environmental restoration of the LIFE TECMINE project

The LIFE TECMINE project was visited in June 2024 by a consultant from the G20 Global Land Initiative office of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). The visit was part of preparations for a course on sustainable agriculture and land restoration for universities, which will include a module on post-mining land use. A practical example of this module will be the innovative environmental restoration techniques applied in the Fortuna Mine of the LIFE TECMINE project, a project promoted by the Forest Management Service of the Directorate-General for the Natural and Animal Environment.

During the visit to various areas of the Fortuna Mine, the consultant was able to observe first-hand the rehabilitation techniques applied, including revegetation with native species and the implementation of innovative techniques regarding water management; practices that contribute to the ecological recovery of the area and promote biodiversity.

The consultant's interest in LIFE TECMINE was due to the relevance of our methodologies and results to the course they have developed on sustainable agriculture and land restoration. The course, aimed at international professionals and academics, seeks to encourage the adoption of sustainable practices that contribute to the mitigation of desertification and land degradation, critical problems that affect many regions of the world.

The UNCCD initiative highlights the importance of international partnerships in the fight against desertification and land degradation. The LIFE TECMINE project remains committed to promoting sustainable practices and disseminating knowledge that can have a positive impact on global land management.
