UN consultant visits the LIFE TECMINE project
The LIFE TECMINE project has been visited by a consultant from the G20 Global Land Initiative office of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). This visit, carried out at the Fortuna Mine in Ademuz, is part of the preparations for an upcoming course for universities on sustainable agriculture and land restoration that the G20 office is organizing; in which post-mining land use will be a module.
Innovative ecological and environmental restoration techniques have been developed at the Fortuna Mine. The visit of the G20 office consultant was a key opportunity to demonstrate the progress made and discuss innovative strategies that can be replicated in other contexts.
During the visit, the consultant was guided through the different areas of the Fortuna Mine where he was able to observe first-hand the experience of the LIFE TECMINE project and the restoration techniques applied, such as geomorphological recovery that reproduces natural landforms, soil reconstruction and revegetation with a high biodiversity of plant species. These practices not only contribute to the ecological recovery of the area, but also promote biodiversity and improve the resilience of ecosystems.
The consultant's interest in LIFE TECMINE lies in the relevance of the methodology and lessons learned for the course they are developing on sustainable agriculture and land restoration. This course, aimed at international professionals and academics, seeks to promote the adoption of sustainable practices that contribute to the mitigation of desertification and land degradation, critical problems that affect many regions of the world. For the elaboration of the course contents, the consultant filmed in different locations inside the mine and conducted interviews with members of the LIFE TECMINE team.
The collaboration with the UNCCD and its G20 initiative underlines the importance of international partnerships in the fight against desertification and land degradation. The LIFE TECMINE project remains committed to the promotion of sustainable practices and the dissemination and transfer of knowledge that can have a positive impact on mining and make it more sustainable and planned.
The LIFE TECMINE team appreciates the visit of the UNCCD consultant and looks forward to continuing to collaborate on future initiatives that promote sustainability and environmental restoration globally.
