LIFE Programme

LIFE is the European Programme for the Environment and Climate Action, for the period from 2014 until 2020.

The legal basis for LIFE is Regulation (Eu) No 1293/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 December 2013 on the establishment of a Programme for the Environment and Climate Action (LIFE) and repealing Regulation (EC) No 614/2007.

Its general objective is to catalyze changes in the development and application of policies through the contribution of solutions and best practices to achieve environmental and climate goals, as well as through the promotion of innovative technologies in the field of environment and climate change.

The LIFE programme is structured in two sub-programmes: the sub-programme for environment and the sub-programme for climate action.

The sub-programme for environment covers three priority areas:

  • LIFE Environment and Resource Efficiency
  • LIFE Nature and Biodiversity
  • LIFE Environmental Governance and Information.

The sub-programme for climate action covers three priority areas:

  • LIFE Climate Change Mitigation
  • LIFE Climate Change Adaptation
  • LIFE Climate Governance and Information.

The overall financial envelope for the implementation of the LIFE Programme is EUR 3.4 Billion, 75% of which is allocated to the sub-programme for environment (EUR 2.2 Billion).

Within the LIFE Environment and Resource Efficiency, a specific aim is demonstrating and testing policy or management approaches, best practices and solutions to environment challenges.

Within this line, the TECMINE project has been design as a demonstration project since aims to test and evaluate the feasibility and suitability of different restoration practices in mining areas of the mediterranean.

The LIFE TECMINE project and this website's content have been funded with the support of the LIFE Programme of the European Union.
